The Benefit Concert is the largest event that the Resonance! Club holds every year. As it is always a huge success, the club raises approximately $1000 each time, and we hope the numbers only increase from there.
Each year, around mid-December, Resonance! holds a large-scale benefit concert with student performers, and all proceeds go to a non-profit organization for a recent disaster or a charity. We have raised money for Thailand flood relief, hurricane relief, cancer funds, refugee organizations, Haiti, Puerto Rico, and various other organizations.
At these concerts, we have a huge variety of student performers: from rock bands, dance groups, flute duets, sax quartets, solo pianists, vocalists, and more. Each year, we open auditions to more and more schools - the past benefit concert in 2016 had collaborations with Mission San Jose High School and John F. Kennedy High School in Fremont. This way, we hope to give local high school students a chance to perform onstage in a real concert, while making a small change in the world.
The event usually takes place at Irvington's amazing Valhalla Theater. We also collaborate with Irvington VAMS club to give students volunteer opportunities at the benefit concert (stage crew, lighting, decorations, etc.), so students who are not involved in musical endeavors can still participate.
